Book #1: Thoughtless
Synopsis:
Kiera follows her boyfriend, Denny, across country so he can pursue his dream job. They move in with Kellan the lead singer of a local band called the D-bags {can you guess their real name??}. He is the typical rocker type: promiscuous, moody, and sexy.
As Denny's job takes him further away from Kiera, she spends more time with Kellan and the other D-bags. A lonely Keira plus alcohol plus Kellan equals one night that will change everything.
My thoughts:
Let me just start this off by saying I thought for sure S.C. Stephens was a guy. Let's just say I was shocked.
How can I say this without hurting anyone's (i.e. S.C. Stephens) feelings? The first half of the book I felt as if it was written for a third grader. I honestly thought I wouldn't finish the book. But something happened, I feel in love with some of the characters.
I love Denny. Yes, he was a workaholic. Yes, he picked up and moved his girlfriend across country and took a chance on a job and ultimately on love. But he was deeply in love with Kiera. He seemed as perfect as a boyfriend could be and he was easy on the eyes.
I love Kellan. He is the rocker/bad boy stereotype, leaving broken hearts everywhere he went. You can tell he has some deep issues that he doesn't want to deal with but that makes him even more mysterious.
I could do without Kiera. She is annoying and insecure in EVERYTHING that she does. Okay, let's be honest here - I grew up pretty insecure about my looks and I have been in relationships where I felt unworthy but I NEVER acted like her. I wanted to punch her in the face half the time.
First, no one blushes that much. NO ONE! Second, she led both the guys on. Yes, I understand that love triangles are complicated but she knew deep in her heart that she was in love with Kellan but she kept running back to Denny for no real reason. I just wanted to shake her and yell "CHOOSE ONE ALREADY!!"
Also, how could she not know that all that innocent hand holding, cuddling, flirting, etc wouldn't lead to more and how exactly was all that innocent? Woman in general are made out to be dumb when in love but this was crazy. Ugh, I feel as if I can write a whole post about what's wrong with her and still be dumbfounded as how in the world she landed two guys.
I think the story itself is a good idea. Love, angst, hot guys, a rocking band, what's not to love? But man, this book left me wanting more. Not really another book but more in developing the characters. Why exactly was Kellan in love with Kiera from the get-go? Yes, she was pretty. But he pretty much said he saw her and Denny snuggling on the couch and he wanted that. BAM! He is in love with her.
I wish we could have seen more of Kiera and Kellan's interaction that would lead them to falling in love. I wish Kiera was confident enough to know that it would be better to tell Denny that she was over their relationship that sleeping with both guys.
So basically I am torn on this book. I feel you should read it but don't expect too much out of it like I did or else you will be disappointed.
Book #2: Effortless
Synopsis:
Kiera and Kellan's rocky start to their relationship lead to some serious trust issues that only grow worse when Kellan's band, the D-bags, are offered to go on a tour.
My thoughts:
Okay I wasn't expecting much out of this book simply because the first really didn't deliver but I was happily surprised. We get to see more into the lives of Kiera and Kellan and how their relationship actually works. Trust me, it's a lot to do with the sexual desire between them but you can tell by the little things how deep their love really goes.
I also love the fact we get deeper into the side characters like Kiera's sister, Anna, and her relationship with another D-bag, Griffin. They are good enough to have their own series.
I can understand where some of her insecurities come into in this book. I mean her sexy rocker boyfriend will be on tour for six months..away...with groupies and they didn't exactly start on a good standing. AND-ALSO-PLUS, they end up hiding stuff from each other that makes no sense! You are already on rocky ground with the guy you are head over heels in love with and you go and hide stuff from him - not smart. But being a romance, they get a happy ending.
Speaking of happy ending, they do a "ring ceremony" on the dance floor of the bar Kiera works at. No one to officiate the wedding, really no witness {though the bar is crowded}, and they announce they are husband and wife!! What?!?! No you aren't...by any sense...you are in a pretend fairy tale life...you have to really get married to be considered husband and wife. She even leaves a message for her parents saying she is married. {I hope her parents get her evaluated.} And you know, I really wanted to like Kiera. I always want to like the lead female {all girl power and stuff} but I can't seem to tolerate her. She has her moments but usually I want to bang my head against the door with her.
If you read Thoughtless you have to read Effortless. But I would say don't get your hopes up with this series. The books do get better and better though.
Book 3: Reckless:

My thoughts:
So this book isn't actually out until March 5th. I plan on buying it. I started this journey I might as well finish. Go hard or go home, eh?
The books continually get better so happy this one will be phenomenal. A girl can dream.
OVERALL THOUGHTS:
Get the books. They actually have some really decent parts in there and you will fall in love with the guys just like Kiera did.
